Thankful for a Decade of Progress
November 20, 2012
On November 5, 2002, voters confirmed the authority with a 73 percent approval rate. Votes were canvassed separately for each of the five cities with more than 12,000 population and for the remainder of the county. This included approval of the Authority’s initial service plan which included local and commuter bus service and commuter rail service. The vision at the time was to advance regional transportation alternatives to improve the economy and quality of life for Denton County residents now and into the future.
Fast forward to November 2012 and consider all that this agency, its board and its partners have accomplished to advance that vision. The elements of the initial service plan have been implemented and a new service plan has been adopted to program out the next ten years. Local bus service has been launched and expanded and continues to grow. In 2011, the central element to the Authority’s vision, commuter rail, was realized with the opening of the A-train. In 2012, the agency focused on the customer experience and service improvements by adding more transit service and improving transit connections. We capped the end of the fiscal year by carrying over 2.9 million passengers surpassing the previous year’s mark by 400,000.
Our future looks bright indeed and we have you to thank. Whether you are a customer, advocate, stakeholder or a Denton County resident/employer, you have helped us succeed. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to MANY more successful decades.
