Bring on the Sunshine: 5 Ways to Make the Most of Daylight Savings
March 12, 2019
It’s time to spring forward and change your clocks because Daylight Savings is here again. While losing an hour might cut into your routine, look on the bright side — you gain so much sunlight! With the sun setting later in the evening there is so much more daylight available to take advantage of.
Want to learn how you can make the most of those extra rays while you #RideDCTA? Check out our top-five list below!
- Take a Trip Down our A-train Rail Trail
Our A-train Rail Trail runs alongside the A-train and stretches from the Downtown Denton Transit Center (DDTC) across Lake Lewisville to our Hebron Station in Lewisville. It’s got great views, nature all around and is a great place to run, walk or bike! Grab your friends, family or your dog and take an evening stroll with your extra daylight.
Once fully completed the trail will be a total of 19 miles. Phase one and three are currently completed and phase two construction began in winter 2018. Learn more about our A-train Rail Trail construction progress here.
- Bike to Work and Daily Errands
Another way to take advantage of longer days and warmer weather is riding your bike to work and other daily errands you may have to do! Biking is not only good for your health, but it’s also good for the environment. Did you know it’s easy to bring your bike on our busses and trains? Check out our biking section on our website to learn more!
- Take an Outdoor Lunch Break
With warmer weather on the way leaving your office for a lunch break might not feel so miserable. Check out our A-train and bus schedules during your lunchtime and take a trip to get out of the office. Grab some coworkers and go out to lunch, or you can pack your lunch and take a ride to a nearby park to eat in the warm weather. Stepping away from your desk for a break can leave you feeling more refreshed and reenergized for the rest of your day!
- Head to a Local Park
With longer days your after-work actives just multiplied! Take a ride on our buses or the A-train and find a nice park to play some games with friends. Denton, Lewisville and Highland Village all have great places to relax outdoors. The extra daylight will make for a great evening, plus you can relax on the ride home. Another great way to make the most of your after-work time is to have a picnic in the park. Pack a basket with your favorite food and watch the sun go down!
- Take a Day Trip
Easily connect to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) from our A-train and enjoy all that the Dallas Metroplex has to offer with your extended daylight. Take a trip to Klyde Warren Park, the Dallas Zoo or any of the awesome places you can see how to get to by visiting our regional destinations section on our website. You can also hop on the North Texas Xpress and take a ride to Downtown Fort Worth! Use the extra light to your advantage and venture around Denton County and Dallas Fort-Worth.
Losing an extra hour of sleep doesn’t have to put a damper on the beginning of spring! What will you do with the extra daylight? Let us know in the comment section below!
